Councillor Don Palmer Providing Local Leadership & Working for You

I trust everyone who reads the posts on this website have enjoyed a fabulous Christmas and New Years and that you are all refreshed and excited about what the new year has in store for you.

If you have the time I encourage you all to take advantage of the Gourmet Gala tonight and the race start tomorrow morning, both part of Unley’s contribution to this year’s Tour Down Under.

The new Council, with it’s two new members have met on a couple of occasions now and I believe from what I have seen that you will get good value for the new members. They are Michael Rabbitt representing Unley Park Ward and Luke Smolucha representing Goodwood Ward. Both neighbouring wards to Clarence park Ward (formerly Goodwood South Ward).

The last 4 years has seen a lot of planning and dream building. I expect this new Council will be presented with the challenge of endorsing if not commencing some of the vision resulting from the last 4 years.

Residents and Rate payers can expect much in the next 12 months including very soon but not limited to

  • Changes bought about by the results of the public consultation into DPA 2 are made known.
  • The Brownhill Creek flood mitigation finally goes out to the public
  • The next stage of the master planning for the Goodwood Oval and Millswood Sporting Complex are presented.

I will endeavour to keep you all up to date with what is happening and involve you in the process of getting the best possible result on all issues.

Remember I am here to represent you and advocate for you.

For all of you have been part of the journey that is DPA2 I can tell you that I have nominated as the presiding member of the next Development, Planning and Strategy Committee, the committee charged with guiding us through the development planning amendment process. I believe this to be perhaps the  most important role on Council in the next two years with the various development plan amendments proposed and with the State Governments Planning reforms.

I will find out next Tuesday evening at the next Council meeting whether I am successful with that nomination.

Regards

Don Palmer.
