The Minister for Road Safety, Michael O’Brien MP, recently released the State Government’s new Road Safety Action Plan. It is a subset of the South Australian Road Safety Strategy 2020 – Towards Zero Together.

The aim of the strategy is to reduce fatalities on our roads s to 80 and less than 800 serious injuries per year. The Plan is the next step towards achieving the target.


It has been led by the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure in collaboration with SAPOL, Motor Accident Commission, RAA, Local Government Association and the Centre for Automotive Safety Research, with input provided by 42 organisations on the Road Safety Stakeholder Reference Group.

The Action Plan highlights the key priority actions under the areas of:
  • Investing in Safer Roads
  • Creating Safer Communities & Neighbourhoods
  • Encouraging Safer Behaviours
  • Continuously Improving the Licensing System
  • Using New Technologies
  • Better Informed Communities.
