Councillor Don Palmer

Improving Credibility, Transparency and Trust.

The message has been received and understood, at least by our CEO Peter Tsokas & our Community & Culture General Manager. We recognize we have failed and are working to learn the lessons.

After my blog post of 11 January I can report I have had a number of conversations with our Management including with our CEO this morning. Prior to meeting with him I prepared a chronology of events in the last 12 months in Canterbury Terrace and adjacent streets.

The chronology told some home truths and truths hard to swallow. But swallow we will.

Certainly we have been victim of things outside our control but there is no point focusing on them, they will forever remain outside our control. Much of this centres on the intrusion of DPTI into our environment and the damage they have caused and the blame shifting they have participated in. What we can and will focus on is that that we could have and did not control.

I am of the belief that he understands why am backing the people of this area.

Coincidentally our General Manager Community & Culture Megan Berghuis and her partner in crime Manager of Community Development Mandy Smith are conducting, as we speak, a community engagement on community engagement. Timely I reckon and it has been the subject of other recent posts in this blog site.

I have spoken at length with both of them and look forward to their recommendations in the month or two on how we can improve our engagement processes.

Thank you everyone who has contributed to the Canterbury Terrace issues, thank you for your patience and thank you for your understanding.
