We are happy to report that we have had NO reported cases of Cryptosporidium at the Unley Swimming Centre. This is in response to a media release and conference held by Minister Snelling today you may have caught on Nine news tonight.

 

With another heat wave on the way we want to assure you that you can safely venture down to your community pool.

 

A dramatic rise in the number of cases of people contracting a parasite that’s easily spread through swimming pools has prompted an urgent warning from health authorities and Minister Snelling. Just under 400 people have already contracted the diarrhoea-inducing cryptosporidium parasite this year, the highest number of cases since 2007 and up from 201 for the whole of last season.

 

The Unley Swimming Centre is proactive in our approach to ensuring our pools stay clean all season, so that you can come down and enjoy a swim whenever you like.

Crypto can also occur from drinking contaminated water, contact with animals, eating uncooked food containing the parasite or contact with infected people, so people should also remember to always maintain good personal hygiene and food safety practices.
