GRINCHES are stealing Christmas decorations from along King William Rd but traders will not let it dampen their festive spirit.

King William Road Traders Association marketing coordinator Helen Lewis said 20 giant red ribbons had been stolen from posts along the shopping strip in the past fortnight.

“We put up 180 ribbons two weeks ago and we’ve had to replace 20 already,” she said.

“They look great and really add to the Christmas spirit if would people stop stealing them.”

Ms Lewis said traders were disappointed with the thefts but would not let them spoil the street’s Christmas spirit, with the street’s annual window Christmas display competition kicking off next week.

Unley Mayor Lachlan Clyne told the Eastern Courier Messenger he was disappointed with the thefts.

“Given this year’s tough economic climate for retailers, we don’t want the Christmas period to be besmirched by reckless theft of any kind,” he said.
