It has been a long time coming. Council has been working on this project since before I joined Council way back in 2010.

Nothing happens fast however in Local Government. There are too many vested interests for it to be any other way.

The pace escalated last year as a result of the successive lobbying by Jayne Stinson. She secured $ 2,500,000 of grant funding from the then State Labor Government.

We have awarded the contract to Schiavello Construction SA.

Their submission provided Council with value for money, an efficient construction program. They demonstrated a detailed understanding of the local neighbourhood requirement’s. Accordingly they will employ an experienced project team dedicated to the project.

The project budget, including the final tender price provided and an appropriate construction contingency remains within the approved project budget of $3.6 million.

Local residents with a project update in November, in anticipation of construction commencing. Letterbox  drops will be undertaken in the coming days to advise the same residents of the projects start in the new year, and the contact details of relevant project staff.  Additional announcements, in co-ordination with the Office of Recreation, Sport and Racing, as well as with the builder will be made in the new year.

The good news is, during construction the oval will remain accessible for community and club use, including evening activities. To limit disruption to local residents and clubs, Council has installed temporary oval access and amenities, including public toilets and change rooms. This will remain for the duration of the construction period.

I am proud to have been part of putting this project together. I look forward to witnessing the construction program, the handover and the first games of footy and cricket (from behind the glass on the first floor).
